Year 7 - Maths
Perimeter and area
In this unit pupils investigate how to calculate the area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes, and composite shapes using rectangles and triangles. They will also derive simple area formulae.
You will learn to find the perimeter and area of basic shapes.
You can calculate the area and perimeter of rectangles. Different rectangles can have the same perimeter.
A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel and equal sides. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Pupils may confuse perimeter and area. Correction: Perimeter is the distance around a 2D shape. Area is the size of the surface.
