Year 7 - Maths
Place value
In this unit pupils revisit, secure and develop their understanding of place value with integers, decimals, fractions, metric and imperial units. This knowledge is then extended to order and compare numbers of increasing complexity.
You will learn to interpret place value in the context of measure (metric).
Prefixes give you information about the place value of a measure. The measurement units determine the place value of each digit.
Metric units are based around the standard units of metre, gram and litre. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Pupils may consider non-metric units in discussion. Correction: Remind them that the metric units are based around the metre, gram and litre only.
