Year 7 - Maths
Place value
In this unit pupils revisit, secure and develop their understanding of place value with integers, decimals, fractions, metric and imperial units. This knowledge is then extended to order and compare numbers of increasing complexity.
You will learn to convert statements about measure.
In order to compare metric measures, conversion may be necessary. Metric measures can be converted by using place value.
Metric units are based around the standard units of metre, gram and litre. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Kilo gram is 1000 bigger than a gram, so 40 g = 1000 x 40 kg. Correction: Kilo gram is 1000 bigger than a gram so 1 kg = 1000 g.
