In this unit pupils will be introduced to binary digits and how they can be used to represent text and numbers. Pupils will perform conversions between binary and decimal numbers and how binary can be used to represent characters. They will explore how cryptography can be used to protect data.
You will learn to explain what binary digits are and calculate the bits required to represent a sequence.
Binary digits, or bits, are the smallest unit of data in computing. They can only be a 0 or 1. Bits are used to represent information, such as letters, numbers or colours, using just 0s and 1s.

Mistake: Computers process all types of information (text, images, video, etc.). Correction: Ultimately, computers use sequences of symbols (0s and 1s) to represent all types of information.
