Year 9 - French
Future plans and work experience: 2-verb phrases with 'aller', modals, 'il faut'
In this unit, pupils talk about future intentions using aller with infinitive. They also practise this two-verb structure with modal verbs in all persons, as well as intonation, est-ce que questions and negation with two-verb structures. Pupils also use 'il faut,il ne faut pas' with infinitive.
You will learn to use 'il faut' and 'il ne faut pas' to describe what must and must not be done in the context of work experience.
'il faut' is a common impersonal verb, only used in the 3rd person singular, meaning 'it is necessary to'. Add 'ne ... pas' to 'il faut' to say what must not be done e.g. 'Il ne faut pas courir' (you must not run).
common impersonal verb used in the 3rd person meaning 'it is necessary'. Say or write it in a short sentence so you use the word actively.
Mistake: 'Il faut' works like modal verbs, it changes for different subject pronouns. Correction: 'Il faut' is only used in the 3rd person singular and it is impersonal, it is used to talk about what it is necessary for people in general to do or what they must do.
