Year 1 - Art and design
The seasons: painting and colour mixing
In this unit, pupils will develop brush control and knowledge of paint colours, techniques & processes. They will experiment with mixing and applying colours in visual contexts, for creative effects and to solve problems. They will use a variety of techniques to create a seasonal triptych.
You will learn to identify and mix hot and cold colours.
Know that a hot colour palette includes yellow, orange and red. Know that a cold colour palette includes green, purple and blue.
hues, tints and shades of yellow, orange and red.
Mistake: Hot or cold colours can change the temperature. Correction: Remind children that these colours do not really change the temperature, but they can make people feel warmer by looking at them, as they remind them of hot things like the sun or a fire.
