Year 1 - English
Word class
In this unit, pupils learn about nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs. Specifically, they learn about the conventions around singular and plural common nouns and proper nouns. They learn that adjectives can both describe and compare and they learn that verbs can be both doing verbs and being verbs.
You will learn to write an expanded noun phrase.
One adjective can be used to describe a noun. Two adjectives can be used to describe a noun with more detail.
Stretched or grown.
Mistake: Pupils might think expanded noun phrases are full sentences. Correction: Clearly highlight that these groups of words are called phrases. Provide lots of exposure to phrases not sentences.
