In this unit pupils will explain 11-19 as cardinal and ordinal numbers. They will double and halve numbers 6-9 and use addition and subtraction facts to add and subtract within 20.
You will learn to explore odd and even numbers within 20.
Recall odd and even numbers to ten. A number is even if the ones digit is even.
Any number that cannot be made of pairs. The last digit is 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Children may think a number is an odd number if the tens digit is odd. Correction: Reinforce the tens number being even by showing the groups of 2 We only need to look at the ones digit to see if a number is odd or even.
