Year 1 - Physical education
Ball skills: pushing and striking
The unit will challenge pupils to keep control of a ball using a racket or bat. Pupils will explore and develop their movement competence when striking or pushing a ball accurately. Pupils will be able to apply their understanding of accuracy and space whilst engaging in a variety of games.
You will learn to push the ball with control using a racket to avoid defenders.
Move: pushing a ball with the racket requires tapping the ball forwards, keeping close control while avoiding defenders. Think: if we get too close to the defenders, they may steal the ball.
moving a ball with your racket.
Mistake: When introducing defenders, pupils often neglect technique and moving with close control. Correction: Remind pupils to use gentle, small touches when moving with their ball.
