Year 1 - Physical education
Ball skills: pushing and striking
The unit will challenge pupils to keep control of a ball using a racket or bat. Pupils will explore and develop their movement competence when striking or pushing a ball accurately. Pupils will be able to apply their understanding of accuracy and space whilst engaging in a variety of games.
You will learn to strike a ball with power towards various targets using your racket.
Move: striking the ball with power requires using greater force by swinging the racket back and forwards quickly. Move: striking the ball accurately towards a target requires us to aim the racket head towards the target.
what you are aiming for when pushing/striking the ball with your racket.
Mistake: Pupils believe that every strike requires maximum power to be good. Correction: Explain that different situations need different amounts of power, such as a shorter strike. Encourage pupils to also think about technique as well as power.
