Kicking (passing)

Ball skills: sending, receiving and dribbling

Unit Summary

The unit will explore and develop pupils' movement competence when sending and receiving a ball. They will develop and apply an understanding of how, where and why we send a ball, stop the ball and dribble the ball using our hands and feet effectively. Pupils will also explore working in teams.

Lesson Summary

You will learn to pass a ball accurately towards a target.

Key Notes

  • Move: passing the ball using the inside of the foot increases accuracy.
  • Move: placing our non kicking foot beside the ball whilst passing, will improve the accuracy of the pass.
  • Think: passing with accuracy requires aiming at the target and concentrating on our technique.
  • Connect: encouraging others and taking turns in the game promotes fairness.
  • Feel: trying to score as many points as possible and counting the score accurately shows honesty.

Vocabulary To Learn

  • pass: transferring the ball from one player to another
  • aiming: the ability to use our bodies to direct an object towards a target
  • accuracy: the ability to control where we kick an object

Common Mistakes To Avoid

  • Pupils believe that they need to kick the ball as hard as possible to make a good pass, leading to a loss of control.
