Year 1 - Religious education
Communities: what does it mean to belong?
In this unit pupils will explore the idea of belonging to a religious community through case studies of Jewish and Christian families. They will hear from different Jews to see that Shabbat can be marked in diverse ways and understand that churches can take many forms in Christianity.
You will learn to explain how different Christians might belong to their faith family.
Many Christians belong to a wider family called their faith family. Some Christians meet with this family in their homes and at church.
believing in something that you cannot see; Christians have faith in God and Jesus.
Mistake: Some may think that you can only belong to a Christian faith family if you go to church every week. Correction: Remind the children that Christians can belong to their faith family in different ways, such as praying at home, helping others, or praying to God. Going to church is one way, but not the only way.
