Year 1 - Science
Naming and grouping animals
This unit focuses on asking simple questions, identifying and classifying common animals, and gathering data. It includes identifying animals like fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals, categorising them as carnivores, herbivores, or omnivores, and comparing their structures.
You will learn to name and group common animals that are birds and reptiles.
Birds are animals that have a backbone, wings and feathers, and lay eggs. Reptiles are animals that have a backbone, a body covered with scales or hard parts, and are cold blooded.
An animal is a living thing which moves and eats other animals or plants. Include the word in a full scientific explanation, not as a single label.
Mistake: All animals have fur and four legs. Amphibians and reptiles are the same. All birds fly. Correction: Range of birds and reptiles and clear explanation of what defines each type of animal.
