In this unit, pupils re-examine verbs like choisir, partir and venir in the present, and add to this verbs like ouvrir. They revisit questions, pre-nominal adjectives, contraction of articles after à and de, and expand knowledge of negation. A further focus is the use of direct object pronouns.
You will learn to use 'il y a' and 'il n'y a pas' to describe what there is and isn't at historical sites.
Words ending in a consonant + -re(s) stress the vowel before the consonant and the -r is said very softly e.g. 'ouvres'. 'Il y a un/une/des' is used to say 'there is' or 'there are'. The article agrees with the gender and number of the noun.
pronouncing one syllable more heavily than other syllables in a word. Say or write it in a short sentence so you use the word actively.
Mistake: 'Il y a' always means 'there is'. Correction: 'Il y a' can mean 'there is' or 'there are' and can be used with singular or plural nouns.
