In this unit, pupils re-examine verbs like choisir, partir and venir in the present, and add to this verbs like ouvrir. They revisit questions, pre-nominal adjectives, contraction of articles after à and de, and expand knowledge of negation. A further focus is the use of direct object pronouns.
You will learn to use -ir verbs and adjectives to describe a visit to a landmark in France.
Adjectives often change their spelling for feminine and plural forms. Those ending in -e do not change in the feminine. Adjectives beau, nouveau and vieux have feminine forms: belle, nouvelle and vieille. Beau and nouveau add -x in plural.

Mistake: All -ir verbs follow the same pattern in the present tense, like -er verbs. Correction: -ir verbs can be grouped into verbs like 'choisir', verbs like 'partir', verbs like 'venir' and verbs like 'ouvrir'. By learning the stem formation and endings for these four verbs, students should be able to use wide range of -ir verbs.
