Year 10 - Physical education

Routine performance and peer review

Gymnastics: technique, body control and constructive feedback in trampolining

Unit Summary

This unit will develop skills in isolation and in combination with other techniques as part of a sequence of movements. To demonstrate control, aesthetics and fluency pupils will analyse and provide feedback to their peers. Pupils will also learn the basics about the axes of rotation.

Lesson Summary

You will learn to perform a 10 bounce routine with a variety of moves and offer feedback to others on their routines.

Key Notes

  • Move: keeping your eyes on a fixed point during each skill will maintain balance and orientation.
  • Move: engaging all muscles to create body tension and conveying enthusiasm and energy enhances the visual appeal.
  • Think: smooth transitions are developed from creating/considering the most suitable move as you land the previous one.
  • Feel: confidence to execute a routine comes from repeated skills practice and mental rehearsal.
  • Connect: listening to feedback from peers helps boost motivation and increases awareness on how to improve performance.

Vocabulary To Learn

  • tariff: term to describe the difficulty value assigned to an individual skill or move
  • routine: a series of specific moves and tricks that you practice and perform in a particular order
  • extrinsic feedback: external information provided by coaches, peers or devices about a performer's actions or results, helping them improve performance

Common Mistakes To Avoid

  • Pupils think a performance of a 10 bounce routine has to include lots of difficult skills.

3 Quick Questions (With Answers)

1. Explain the lesson in two key points.

Move: keeping your eyes on a fixed point during each skill will maintain balance and orientation. Move: engaging all muscles to create body tension and conveying enthusiasm and energy enhances the visual appeal.

2. What does this key word mean in this lesson? 'tariff'

term to describe the difficulty value assigned to an individual skill or move.

3. Correct this common mistake.

Mistake: Pupils think a performance of a 10 bounce routine has to include lots of difficult skills. Correction: There is judgement on difficulty through tariffs, however the performance is also linked to maintenance of height / execution with good technique. Often it is better to go simple with good execution, rather than difficult and have no control.
