In this unit pupils will examine key beliefs in Buddhism. They will examine key concepts such as dhamma and the idea of the human condition. They will gain an understanding of Buddhist ideas about suffering and the way to end it. They will also examine the story of Gautama Buddha.
You will learn to explain Buddhist belief in Nibbana and the importance and influence of this belief for Buddhists today.
The end of suffering and ability to reach Nibbana is the Fourth Noble Truth. The Four Noble Truths help Buddhists understand what is meant by 'The Middle Way'.

Mistake: Nibbana (Nirvana) is a Buddhist view of heaven. Correction: Nibbana is the cessation of suffering, craving and ignorance. It is the end of the cycle of rebirth and the realisation of true peace and freedom.
