Year 11 - English
Spoken language masters: refining public speaking skills
In this unit, pupils develop their confldence in delivering speeches. They first focus on finding a topic for a presentation, before building confidence and stronger vocal techniques. They finally deliver their presentations.
You will learn to generate, refine, and organise ideas for a presentation through structured discussion and debate.
Being a critical friend means helping others to improve by giving honest feedback in a supportive way. Being able to articulate the main points of a presentation verbally is good preparation for developing ideas.
to express thoughts or ideas clearly and effectively.
Mistake: Pupils sometimes think they need to write out their whole presention before they deliver it. Correction: It can be much more effective to verbally plan and practice presentations without writing it in full. Approaching the tasks verbally can increase pupil confidence in articulating ideas out loud.
