Year 11 - French
Popular culture: La vie quotidienne
This unit focuses on mastering the use of reflexive pronouns and verbs. It also revisits perfect and imperfect tenses, relative clauses and negation, and introduces the past participles of modal verbs. There is a further focus on avant de + infinitive and après avoir + past participle.
You will learn to understand and give advice using 'après avoir' + past participle.
'Après avoir' is used with a past participle to translate the English 'after doing' something. If the verb takes 'être' in the perfect tense, use 'après être' instead of 'après avoir'.
verb form that forms the perfect tense, together with the auxiliary verb. Say or write it in a short sentence so you use the word actively.
Mistake: The 'après avoir' + past participle structure applies to all verbs. Correction: Verbs which take 'être' in the perfect tense use the structure 'après être' + past participle. The past participle must agree with the subject of the sentence, e.g. 'après être arrivée, elle a fait ses devoirs'.
