Developing reading preferences in year 3
In this unit, pupils will develop their reading preferences by exploring different genres and reflecting on their reading identity. Pupils will learn how to make effective text recommendations and create a reading community. Finally, they will develop their awareness of different forms in reading.

Reading can take many forms; all are equally as valid as each other. Narrative fiction can cover a range of genres, content, settings and styles.

Mistake: Graphic novels and comics share many similar features. Pupils might use the term interchangeably. Correction: Graphic novels have a clear beginning, middle and end, unlike comics which are usually released weekly in shorter comic strips.
