Year 3 - English
Developing reading preferences in year 3
In this unit, pupils will develop their reading preferences by exploring different genres and reflecting on their reading identity. Pupils will learn how to make effective text recommendations and create a reading community. Finally, they will develop their awareness of different forms in reading.
You will learn to make recommendations to other readers.
Text recommendations are an important part of developing reading for pleasure. Making a text recommendation includes a personal reason for why the text was relevant to you.
A recommendation is a suggestion for a text that is well-suited to a reader's age and their interests.
Mistake: Text recommendations might be quite short in length, initially. Correction: Develop pupils' awareness of reasons and possible responses they could include to develop recommendations further.
