Year 3 - English
Developing reading preferences in year 3
In this unit, pupils will develop their reading preferences by exploring different genres and reflecting on their reading identity. Pupils will learn how to make effective text recommendations and create a reading community. Finally, they will develop their awareness of different forms in reading.
You will learn to understand your reader identity by reflecting on your reading experiences.
Reader identity is a reflection on who you are as a reader and why you read. Reading is a very personal experience; it is unique to every reader.
A genre is a category used to group different types of literature.
Mistake: Pupils often think that only certain types of literature are valid such as novels. Correction: Help pupils to celebrate a wide range of text types.
