In this unit pupils will continue to measure using appropriate tools and units progressing to using a wider range of measures, including comparing and using mixed units.
You will learn to solve problems about lengths and heights.
Word problems can be represented in a bar model by identifying the parts and the whole. To find the whole, we need to add the parts together.
A pictorial representation of a problem where bars are used to represent the known and unknown quantities. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Converting between units; interpreting a word problem; confusing parts and wholes. Correction: When representing as a bar model, visualise the problem to help determine what the parts are and what the whole is.
