Year 3 - Physical education
Health and wellbeing: mindfulness and meditative balances
The unit will explore how we feel in our minds and in our bodies, when we experience various emotions. Pupils will learn how to execute meditative balances while focusing, to help combat feelings of anxiety. Pupils will gain an awareness of how to apply these techniques in day-to-day life.
You will learn to hold and perform various meditative balances to help your mind and body to feel more relaxed.
Move: we can use meditative balances to help us focus and relax as well as increase our strength and flexibility. Think: performing meditative balances correctly requires focus in order to relax.
being very calm, quiet and focused.
Mistake: Pupils over complicate the balances they are holding and fail to hold them still. This also means they will not be able to focus as they try to hold the balance. Correction: Encourage pupils to create a stable base, enabling their body to focus throughout and successfully use the balances as a tool to relax.
