Year 3 - Physical education
Health and wellbeing: mindfulness and meditative balances
The unit will explore how we feel in our minds and in our bodies, when we experience various emotions. Pupils will learn how to execute meditative balances while focusing, to help combat feelings of anxiety. Pupils will gain an awareness of how to apply these techniques in day-to-day life.
You will learn to use relaxation techniques effectively to help you feel calm and content in every-day life.
Move: moving around the room at different speeds represents how we feel in life; we can pause to help us relax. Think: pausing after fast movements to help us relax requires concentration.
when your body and mind feel calm and peaceful.
Mistake: Pupils struggle to concentrate when they are freezing still or when they are deep breathing so the relaxation technique is ineffective. Correction: Pupils need to be reminded that the techniques only work if they focus and are still, concentrating on their breathing / the stillness.
