Developing reading preferences in Year 4
In this unit, pupils will develop their reading preferences by exploring different genres and reflecting on their reading identity. Pupils will learn how to make text recommendations and create a reading community. Finally, they will develop their awareness of different forms of non-fiction.
You will learn to develop your awareness of a range of forms.
Reading Non-Fiction can develop knowledge of the world around you and the people that inhabit it. Reading about other people's lives and cultures can develop curiosity about the wider world.
form is the way that a text can be presented.
Mistake: Pupils might think that non-fiction is a form not a genre. Correction: Non-fiction is a genre of text. It can be presented in many different forms. Provide pupils with examples to read.
