Year 4 - English
Developing reading preferences in Year 4
In this unit, pupils will develop their reading preferences by exploring different genres and reflecting on their reading identity. Pupils will learn how to make text recommendations and create a reading community. Finally, they will develop their awareness of different forms of non-fiction.
You will learn to understand your reader identity by reflecting on your reading experiences.
Reader identity is the process of reflecting on what you enjoy or do not enjoy reading. Reading can take many forms; it does not have to be restricted to a book.
A reading preference can include what we read and where we read.
Mistake: Pupils may think reading is restricted to a book. Correction: By completing a reading treasure hunt, pupils can explore reading in a range of forms.
