Year 4 - Geography
Europe: how diverse are its landscapes and places?
This unit introduces Europe as a continent of many countries, climates and landscapes. Pupils use maps to locate countries and cities, explore physical and human features, and consider how people live, travel and visit different parts of Europe.
You will learn to describe key features of the human geography of Europe and use atlas maps to identify spatial patterns.
Europe has diverse human geographical features (cities, road and rail networks, types of farming and industry). The key human features of Europe can be investigated using a wide range of resources, atlases and maps.
Land use is the function or purpose of a particular area.
Mistake: Learners may struggle to make sense of atlas maps which often show a lot of complex information. Correction: Spend additional time exploring a digital atlas map as a class or group to reinforce learners' understanding of different map conventions.
