In this unit pupils will explain the relationship between multiples of 3 and of 6. They will use this relationship and tests of divisibility for the 3- and 6-times tables to solve problems.
You will learn to use divisibility rules for multiples of 6.
For every one group of 6 there are two groups of 3. For a number to be divisible by 6, it must be divisible by both 2 and 3.
The sum of the digits of a number is called its digit sum. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Lack of understanding of key terms such as: 'digit,' 'number.' Pupils may also forget how to identify an even number. Correction: Remind children that even numbers end in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8. Explain clearly the difference between the key terms and encourage children to test the divisibility rule on both 3 digit and 4 digit numbers.
