This unit teaches pupils about the physical processes that help explain our weather and climate. Pupils will use fieldwork to investigate weather in their local area. Pupils will also learn about how and why our climate is changing.

Extreme weather events are becoming increasingly common due to climate change. Climate change effects include higher temperatures in summer, fewer cold spells in winter and an increase in heavy rain.

Mistake: Climate change simply means hotter, drier summers in the UK. Correction: Warmer temperatures in summer and fewer cold spells in winter are due to climate change. There is also some evidence that the UK is also experiencing more heavy rain events.
