Year 7 - German
In the classroom: 'sein', nouns, articles, questions
This unit introduces core vocabulary and grammatical gender to identify and describe items in the classroom. The verb 'sein', definite and indefinite articles and key question words enable simple conversations. Pupils practise sound-symbol correspondences long and short [a] and [e], [ei] and [z]
You will learn to say what you am or you are and can negate adjectives and nouns.
[z] is pronounced like 'Zug' and sounds like the English 'ts' at the end of the word 'boots'. The verb 'sein' means 'to be/being'. 'Ich bin' means 'I am' and 'du bist' means 'you are'.
pronounced [z] as in 'Zug'. Say or write it in a short sentence so you use the word actively.
Mistake: 'Nicht' is always used to negate. Correction: You can use 'nicht' or 'kein(e)' to negate a sentence. 'Nicht' is used with adjectives whereas 'kein, keine' is used with nouns.
