Year 8 - Physical education
Health and wellbeing: long term benefits of physical activity through circuits
This unit will explore the correct technique for body weight exercises along with an understanding of how to adapt and modify stations to ensure a training benefit. Pupils will learn about the physical, mental and social benefits of physical activity and how to ensure they are safe when training.
You will learn to perform anaerobic exercise and understand how this can improve different components of fitness.
Move: anaerobic exercises involve explosive muscular contractions that improve speed and power. Think: anaerobic exercise is characterised by high intensity movements for a short amount of time (under 2 minutes).
exercise without oxygen, often for a short burst of energy (e.g. throwing a javelin).
Mistake: Anaerobic exercise is only useful for improving your ability to run fast. Correction: Anaerobic training can also build muscular strength, power, endurance and improve body composition. All of these can benefit your performance in many different sports not just running.
