Mistake: Pupils may add together costs that are expressed in different units (e.g. the cost of petrol in pence and the cost of a car park in pounds) without considering the implications on place value. Correction: Writing units on your answers to each stage of working can help you to double check whether numbers in subsequent calculations are expressed in the same units.
