Year 1 - Design and technology
Templates in textiles: hand puppets
This unit develops pupils' knowledge of the characteristics of non-woven fabrics and their joining techniques. Pupils analyse the techniques used to make fabric products and then apply this knowledge by designing and making a fabric puppet.
You will learn to join fabric together with a simple running stitch.
Fabrics are joined together using a running stitch. Fixing the start and end of a running stitch holds the thread in place.
to unravel or become worn at the edges.
Mistake: The whole puppet needs to be stitched. Correction: There are other joining technqiues that can be used to join the felt together. The running stitch is one which is advised for this unit, however, staples or fabric glue / PVA can be used as an alternative.
