This unit develops pupils' knowledge of the characteristics of non-woven fabrics and their joining techniques. Pupils analyse the techniques used to make fabric products and then apply this knowledge by designing and making a fabric puppet.

A running stitch is a good way to join fabric together. Weave fabric is a good material to practice a running stitch.

Mistake: Children should use cotton to sew. Correction: Using embroidery thread means that it is easier for smaller hands to use and it is also more resilient. It can be used with larger eyed needles too.
