Year 1 - Maths
Numbers 0 to 20 in different contexts
In this unit pupils will consolidate their counting to 20. They will measure objects using non-standard and standard measures and record outcomes, providing a context for counting and comparing numbers to 20.
You will learn to use a ruler to measure length.
Using a ruler means that you all get the same measurement for the same object. When using a ruler always measure starting from zero cm.
A tool for measuring length. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Children may align the end of their object with the end of the ruler, rather than zero. Correction: Use a sticker or coloured pen to highlight the zero on the ruler so that children's attention is drawn to the zero when they are measuring length using a ruler.
