Year 1 - Physical education
Locomotion: running and jumping
The unit will increase pupils' motor competence when running, providing an understanding of where we run and why. Pupils will show self belief, exploring jumping in different directions, at different speeds, heights and distances. Pupils will learn how and why we jump with the correct technique.
You will learn to run as part of a team whilst using an effective running technique.
Move: running fast requires acceleration while using the correct technique; which can be done as part of a team. Think: an understanding of the correct technique for running will benefit the team's performance.
a group of people who work together to achieve a common goal.
Mistake: Pupils focus on wanting to go first in their team as opposed to their running technique. Pupils think success is all about winning. Correction: Give each pupil a number and rotate who goes first to avoid the distraction. Challenge pupils to improve their own team's time instead of racing others to reinforce the point.
