This unit unpicks the many factors to be considered to prevent injury in sport. It focussess on the effective delivery of both warm up and cool down components of training.
You will learn to explain the phases of a warm up and a cool down and the physical benefits for completing both.
A warm up should include a pulse raiser, mobility, stretching, dynamic movements and skill rehearsal. Warming up raises body temperature, increasing range of movement and pliability of muscles to reduce risk of injury.

Mistake: Stretching is the first part of a warm up routine. Correction: Before a muscle can be stretched, it needs to have an increase in temperature and pliability. Therefore, before stretching, an individual should do a pulse raiser to increase blood flow to the muscles.
