This unit will examine the golden triangle relationship between the media, sponsors and sportspeople to help understand how sponsorship has benefits and risks for all parties as sports increasingly operate as big businesses in a billion dollar industry of professional sport.
You will learn to describe the different types of sponsorship and discuss their impact on performers, sports, officials, audiences and sponsors.
Commercialisation involves the use of sport for financial gain and includes activities like sponsorship. Sponsorship is when companies provide support in exchange for promotion and visibility.

Mistake: Believing that sponsorship only involves financial support. Correction: Sponsorship can include financial support but also include equipment, clothing or facility provisions.
