Year 2 - Maths
Sense of measure - capacity, volume and mass
In this unit pupils will choose, use and compare appropriate standard units to estimate and measure length/height mass, capacity and temperature to the nearest appropriate unit.
You will learn to measure length in any direction to give height, length and distance.
You can measure length in any direction. When you measure height, you start from the bottom of the object and measure to the top to find how tall something is.
How long from end to end. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: With larger amounts, children may miscount the number of objects. Correction: Encourage children to mark where 10 objects end, and use this to count on from, rather than always re-starting at one.
