Year 2 - Physical education
Locomotion: running, jumping and dodging
This unit will increase pupils' motor competence when dodging and jumping. Pupils will understand when and why we dodge and apply this knowledge showing self belief in simple games. Pupils will use their jumping skills in games too and use this understanding to jump in combination by linking jumps.
You will learn to dodge effectively and move into space to avoid defenders.
Move: to dodge effectively we bend our knee, plant one foot on the floor, lean to one side and move the other way. Move: dodging effectively to avoid defenders requires you to have your head up to look for space.
to avoid something by moving quickly to the side or changing direction.
Mistake: Pupils might think that performing one dodge will always be successful. Correction: Pupils should remember that the defender will respond to the dodge. Pupils might need to dodge again if the defender guesses which way they will dodge and block their run into space or another defender might move into the space they are running to.
