Year 4 - Geography
Local area: what needs changing?
This unit develops pupils' fieldwork and enquiry skills through a local investigation into change. Pupils use maps, tools and data to explore how their area is changing, collect and present information, and reflect on possible changes in the future.
You will learn to suggest and argue for preferred change in the local area using sources of evidence.
Fieldwork data can be used in purposeful ways, such as making informed recommendations for change. We can think about possible, probable and preferred futures: how can we apply this thinking to our locality?
Something that is purposeful is done on purpose to achieve an aim.
Mistake: Recommendations might not have been enacted or responded to but the enquiry was not a failure. Correction: Highlight the cost of enacting changes and the restrictions on budgets and resources.
