Year 4 - Geography
Local area: what needs changing?
This unit develops pupils' fieldwork and enquiry skills through a local investigation into change. Pupils use maps, tools and data to explore how their area is changing, collect and present information, and reflect on possible changes in the future.
You will learn to help plan a fieldwork visit and know how to keep myself safe.
Risk assessment involves identifying possible dangers and knowing what action to take to stay safe. A fieldwork destination should be accessible and appropriate to help answer the questions in an enquiry.
A risk assessment looks at what hazards we might come across and how to keep us safe.
Mistake: Children may not see it as their 'job' to think about risk assessemnts. Correction: Risk assessments conducted by children are very effective as children begin to look at their environment in a different way.
