Year 4 - Physical education
Health and wellbeing: mindfulness, meditative balances and relaxation techniques
This unit will focus on exploring positive and negative emotions and managing them through using mindfulness techniques such as visualisation, meditative balances, mime and deep breathing. Pupils will understand why these techniques are important for a healthy mind to support our overall wellbeing.
You will learn to use meditative balances effectively to improve your posture, body awareness, focus and concentration, and can use mindfulness techniques to help manage negative emotions.
Move: to hold our meditative balances consistently, slow deep breathing and a strong posture help us remain still. Move: taking deep breaths in and out, while focusing on positive emotions, enables us to feel calm and relaxed.
maintain stability and control over the body's position to remain stationary.
Mistake: Pupils rush their deep breathing, which reduces the impact of the technique. Correction: Explain to pupils that it's important not to rush deep breathing, otherwise they won't be able to focus their minds and the technique won't work.
