Year 4 - Physical education
Health and wellbeing: mindfulness, meditative balances and relaxation techniques
This unit will focus on exploring positive and negative emotions and managing them through using mindfulness techniques such as visualisation, meditative balances, mime and deep breathing. Pupils will understand why these techniques are important for a healthy mind to support our overall wellbeing.
You will learn to use movement and expression to perform a range of actions that represent emotions that you may experience in life.
Move: moving our bodies to music requires us to perform actions with clear, defined movements that express emotion. Think: understanding the words of a song helps create meaningful actions to express our emotion.
feelings that we have in response to a situation, event or thought that influence our mood or behaviour.
Mistake: Pupils may feel uncomfortable or vulnerable when reflecting on the abstract ideas of the poem, which can make it difficult for them to focus, relax and link their work to the meaning of the poem. Correction: Support pupils to open their minds to new concepts and to focus only on themself when reflecting. Explain to pupils that only by trying something with full effort and concentration can the benefits be felt.
