You will learn to multiply a whole number by a proper fraction.

Mistake: Pupils struggle to identify how much the rod has been scaled by as they cannot visualise the fractional size of the new whole. Correction: Encourage pupils to visualise how much the whole has shrunk by. Avoid pupils using the rods to immediately find out what size of the new whole, encourage pupils to visualise and estimate prior to checking with the rods.
