3D Modelling

Unit Summary

In this unit pupils will discover how computers can be used to produce 3D models. They will experience working in a 3D space, moving, resizing, and duplicating objects. They will then create hollow objects using placeholders and combine multiple objects to create a model of a desk tidy.

Lesson Summary

You will learn to recognise that objects can be combined in a 3D model.

Key Notes

  • 3D objects can be manipulated.
  • To rotate a shape, you need to select it and use the curved double-headed arrows.
  • To see one or more of the rotate handles, you need to change the viewing angle.
  • You can use an object more than once by duplicating it.

Vocabulary To Learn

  • rotate: to turn around an axis
  • duplicate: to make a copy of
  • group: combining objects into a single object

Common Mistakes To Avoid

  • Grouping an object turns all of the objects blue-coloured forever.

3 Quick Questions (With Answers)

1. Describe the system or process from this lesson in clear steps.

3D objects can be manipulated. To rotate a shape, you need to select it and use the curved double-headed arrows.

2. Define this computing term and give one practical example. 'rotate'

to turn around an axis. Add one real device or system example to prove understanding.

3. Correct this common computing misconception.

Mistake: Grouping an object turns all of the objects blue-coloured forever. Correction: Objects can be ungrouped, which will return the objects to their original colours.
