In this unit pupils will explain what percent means and how to represent a percentage in different ways. They will learn how to convert percentages to decimals and fractions and solve conversion problems.

Percent means the number of parts in each hundred. Percentages are parts of the whole.
Percent means the number of parts in each hundred. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Pupils may make mistakes when determining the percentage of different wholes that are not equal in size or value. Correction: Talk about the differences between the different wholes explored. Describe percentage as a proportion of that specific whole. Compare two different wholes where the percentages of them are the same and where the percentages of them are different.
