Dystopian settings: descriptive writing
In this unit, pupils learn to write atmospheric dystopian settings. They first review and deepen their understanding of sentence types, before looking at how to use figurative language and sophisticated punctuation to enhance their descriptions. They finally plan and write a dystopian setting.
You will learn to understand and identify features of a dystopian setting.
A dystopia is a fictional, futuristic society in which there is great suffering and injustice. The setting is the time and place in which a story takes place.

Mistake: Pupils may mistake dystopia and utopia as the words are similar. Correction: Explicitly explain the difference between the two and explain that they are antonyms.
