Year 7 - Physical education
Invasion games: basic tactics to overcome opponents in donor sports
This unit explores tactics to overcome opponents with a focus on keeping possession of a ball either in hand or at your feet. Pupils will learn how to move on and off the ball to create space, to create options and to outwit others in 'donor' sports and scenarios that can be applied to many sports.
You will learn to create space and use it to build an attack.
Move: drawing the defender outwards or running wide is an effective way of creating space. Think: understanding the importance of creating space will increase success in invasion games.
causing a defender to move towards you (also a tie or equal score in a game).
Mistake: Crowding around the ball. Correction: By taking the ball out into the wide channels on a pitch/court, you draw defenders out of their area and create space elsewhere to pass to your own players and make an attack on goal.
